Subordinating Conjunctions

  • Subordinating Conjunctions

  • Subordinating conjunctions connect a clause with additional information to the main sentence.  Subordinating conjunctions always connect a dependent clause and an independent clause.

Remember! An independent clause has a subject and a verb and can be a complete sentence.  A dependent clause can also have a subject and a verb, but it cannot be a complete sentence.

I was late to work today because my car broke down.
-I was late to work today = independent clause
-Because my car broke down = dependent clause
