Passive Voice: Present and Past

 

  • Passive Voice: Present and Past

  • Passive voice always uses a form of the verb be.  In present tense, this includes amis, and are.  In past tense, this includes was and were.  

    subject + be* past participle
    -Hot drinks are offered in three sizes.
    -The first Starbucks was opened in 1971.

    *Remember! The subject and verb must always agree in number (singular or plural).

    The castle was built in 1343.
    The packages were delivered to the wrong address. 
  • Be careful! Only change the be verb in passive voice.  Do not change the past participle!
