Adverbs

  • Adverbs

  • Adverbs are words that modify other adverbsadjectives, or verbs. They answer how (much/often), when, where, or why in a sentence.

    Adverbs have many different options for positions in a sentence.
    -I slowly walked home. (Slowly shows how)
    -Lisa drives very carefully. (Very shows how carefully)
    -Sometimes, Cindy cooks dinner. (Sometimes shows how often)
    -My sister visited me* yesterday. (Yesterday shows when)
    -Wait here until I call your name. (Here shows where)

    *Remember! Never put an adverb between a verb and its direct object.
    -My sister visited me yesterday. 
    -My sister visited yesterday me.
