Time Clauses: When/After


  • A future time clause with when or after shows two actions/events.  The second action/event is a result of the first action/event. 

    Time clauses for future events:
    -Time clause = present simple
    -Main clause = future or imperative
    will call you when I get home.* (Future + Present Simple)
    When you get home, call me. (Present Simple, + Imperative)
    • Peter will come home when the blizzard stops.When it stops raining, go outside. 
      The rescue team will search for survivors after the storm passesAfter a natural disaster occursremain calm.
    • *Be careful! Do NOT use future for time clauses (I will call you when I will get home.)
