Time Clauses

  • Time clauses show a relationship between two actions/events.  You cannot use time clauses alone.  They always have a main clause.
  • I will call you when I get home.

    -When I get home = time clause
    -I will call you = main clause
  • Some common time clause words are:
    -when
    -after
    -before
    -until

 







  • Do your homework before the lesson starts.I will do my homework after dinner. 
    When I get home, I will call you.*There is a tornado warning until 5:00 o'clock. 
  • *Remember! You can use time clauses at the beginning of a sentence.  Use a comma (,) after the time clause.
    When I get homeI will call you=  I will call you when I get home.
