• Continuing Actions

• Use the present perfect continuous for actions that started in the past and are still continuing in the present.

  
  

  -I have been learning a new language.

  (I started learning in the past and am still learning now.)

  
  

  For actions that have continued for a period of time (hours, days, weeks, months, etc.) use for with present perfect continuous.

  present perfect continuous + for + period of time
  

  -I have been dating Rachel for two years.

  
  

  For actions that started at a specific point in time (a time, a day, a month, a year, etc.) use since with present perfect continuous. 

  present perfect continuous + since + specific point in time
  

  -We have been dating since January.
