• You can use adverbs of time with the past perfect to connect two different times in the past.

    Use already when an action happened earlier than expected.

    
    

    The train had already left when he arrived.

    When he arrived, the train had left already.
    

    
    

    Remember! You can use already between the auxiliary verb (had) and the main verb OR at the end of the sentence.

• I had already left the house when you called me.	The police had not caught the criminal yet.
  The trial had ended by four PM.	The movie had already started by the time I arrived.
