Relative Adverbs

  • Relative Adverbs

  • Relative adverbs can also join clauses together to form complex sentences.  They add more information to a sentence.

    Some common relative adverbs are:
    -When: for time  
    -Where: for places
    -Why: for reasons

    I will move in tomorrow.  The tenants will move out.I will move in tomorrow when the tenants move out. 
    That's the apartment. I met the agent there.
    That's the apartment where I met the agent.
    I don't know the reason this house is so expensive.I don't know why this house is so expensive.
  • *Be careful! The relative adverb usually goes in the middle of the information it joins together.
    That's the apartment I met the agent where.
