• Passive Modals: Negatives

• Add not between the modal verb and be verb for a negative passive modal.

  
  

  subject + modal + not + be + past participle

  - Houses should not be built too close together.

  - Houses shouldn't* be built too close together. 

  
  

  *Remember! Negative modals are usually used in the contracted form. 

   Some modals have special contraction forms:

  -will not > won't

  -shall not > shan't
