Other Uses of So/Such...That

  • Other Uses of So/Such...That

  • Use so that to explain why someone did something.  
    -I left for work early so that I could avoid traffic. 
    (Why did I leave for work early? To avoid traffic.)
  • Use such...that with only a noun. This form often expresses someone's opinion. An adjective is not necessary.

    such + noun + that*
    The restaurant was such a disappointment that I won't go back.

    *Remember! You can also use this form without that.
    -The restaurant was such disappointment.

  • I sleep with a light on so that I don't have nightmares.Alex wakes up early so that he has time to work out.
    The aquarium is such fun that I visit it once a week.Al is such a cheater that no one plays cards with him.
