Noun Clauses

 

  • Noun Clauses

  • noun clause is a dependent clause* with a subject and a verb that functions as a noun in a sentence. Sometimes, it is not enough to use a single noun to represent a person, place, thing, or idea. In this case, you can use a noun clause.

    noun clause begins with a relative pronoun. Remember, relative pronouns include who, whom, whose, which, what, why, and that. 
    -I don't understand what you are talking about.

    Since noun clauses function as nouns, you can replace them with a pronoun
    -I don't understand you
