Noun Clauses with That

 

  • Noun Clauses with That

  • When a noun clause functions as the direct object of a verb*that can be removed from the sentence.  

    - I didn't know that he could play the ukulele. 
    - I didn't know he could play the ukulele

    That can be removed from this sentence because he could play the ukulele functions as the direct object of the verb know.
  • *Remember! Mental process verbs (think, know, understand, etc.) are often followed by a direct object noun clause.
