Negative Noun Clauses as Objects

  • Negative Noun Clauses as Objects

  • Remember that noun clauses are dependent clauses with a subject and a verb.  In their standard form, noun clauses are affirmative. You can form negative noun clauses with not.

relative pronoun + subject auxiliary verb + not + base verb
    - Jessica thinks that she cannot sing well.

The noun clause that she cannot sing well still functions as a direct object in this sentence.

  • I don't understand why people don't do more to fight global warming. Harrison didn't know that you can't recycle pizza boxes.
I hope that we don't ruin the sea turtles' natural  habitat.Tina said that we shouldn't use plastic bags when we buy groceries because it pollutes the environment.
