• Extreme Adjectives

• Some adjectives have degrees or levels.  These adjectives are often paired with adverbs to show the level of what they describe. When this type of adjective is paired with extremely, we can use an extreme adjective instead.

  
  

  extremely + adjective = extreme adjective

  It's extremely cold in here. = It's freezing in here. 

  
  

  Be careful! There are special rules for extreme adjectives.

  1. Do not use them with comparatives and superlatives.

  Siberia is the most freezing place in the world.

  2. Use completely, absolutely, or really for more emphasis.
  

  It was absolutely freezing today.

  It was very freezing today.

• My sister is extremely angry because the dry cleaner lost her wedding dress.	My sister is furious because the dry cleaner lost her wedding dress.
  Max has never been to the circus. He's extremely scared of clowns.	Max has never been to the circus. He's completely terrified of clowns.
