Simple Past Tense - Regular and Irregular Past Tense

  • Simple Past Tense

  • Use the past simple tense for actions that happened before the present time. The past simple has regular and irregular verbs.
                              ㅤPAST <--------- NOW

    John visited France last year.
  • Regular and Irregular Past Tense Verbs

  • Regular past tense are verbs that end with -ed.
    pack + -ed = packed

    Some verbs have special spelling rules with -ed.

    love + -d = loved (add -d)
    plan + -ed = planned (double the final consonant)
    carry + -ed = carried (change -y to -i)
  • Some verbs are irregular in the past tense.
    Do NOT add -ed to irregular verbs.
  • be (am, is, are)was/were
    ranrun
    putput
