Reflexive Pronouns
- Use reflexive pronouns when the subject and the object of a verb are the same. In these sentences, replace the object of the sentence with a reflexive pronoun.-Jane looks at herself in the mirror.(Jane = subject, herself = object)Use by with a reflexive pronoun to mean 'alone'.-Jane eats lunch by herself. = Jane eats lunch alone.
I make myself breakfast every morning. John is single. He lives by himself.We enjoyed ourselves on our date.Sam and Jack built a house by themselves.- Be careful! You can use themselves for plural and singular 'they'. Another option for singular 'they' is themself.
