No Relative Pronouns

  • No Relative Pronouns

  • Some relative pronouns can be left out of a sentence.

When a relative pronoun is followed by the subject* of a relative clause, it can be left out.
-The real estate agent that we met was very kind.
(That is followed by the clause's subject, so it can be left out.)
-The real estate agent we met was very kind.

Relative pronouns followed by a verb* cannot be left out.
-The real estate agent that helped us was very kind.
(That is followed by a verb, so it cannot be left out.)
