Phrasal Verbs
- A phrasal verb has a base verb and a particle. The particle is usually a preposition or an adverb.throw (verb) + away (adverb) = throw away (phrasal verb)Phrasal verbs have two words or more words, but they function as ONE verb.Phrasal verbs have a different meaning than the base verb.
VERB DEFINITION EXAMPLE Look ( base verb)Direct your eyes towards something. Look at that guy across the street! Isn't he a famous actor? Look up (phrasal verb)Search for information, such as in a dictionary or the internet. Can you look up the definition of this word in the dictionary? Look after (phrasal verb)Take care of something or someone. Please look after your sister on Saturday. I have to work.
