Adverbial Phrases (In English Language)

  • Adverbial Phrases

  • An adverbial phrase is a group of words that has the same function as an adverb. Adverbial phrases modify verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and other phrases. 

    Adverbial phrases add information to a sentence.  Adverbial phrases do NOT have a verb or a subject.

    John has lunch.
    John has lunch at 1 PM.
    The adverbial phrase (1 PM) describes when John has





















  • Emily goes to the gym after work
    Now available in all stores.
    I walk to work every day.
    Before school, Sam walks his dog.*
  • *Remember! Use a comma (,) after adverbial phrases at the beginning of a sentence.
